ABRUZZO is a mountainous region divided into two parts, one part
is the Appeninians with the mountain groups Maiella and Gran Sasso, the
other part is the mountain groups Simbruini and Meta and the large valleys
Fusino and Sulmona. The climate is harsh during the winter and there are
several ski resorts like Roccaraso, Campo Imperatore, Pescasseroli and Rivisondoli.
The tourism has developed a lot during the past years and except from the
main city L’Aquila, the national park of Abruzzo is an interesting
destination. Here you can study exciting plants and animals in an environment
that is typical for the Appeninians, furrowed by rivers and with marks from
the Ice Age. Since the region is so close to Rome many people start their
vacations here.
