  TOUR 3 (11days): Transylvania - Maramures - The Monasteries of Moldavia

- Day 1 - Arrival in the Bucharest Otopeni Airport, transfer to the Ibis Hotel or a similar one.

- Day 2 Bucharest - Sibiu - 265 km.
After breakfast, the car and the travel documents are taken over, departure to Sibiu. On the way the Curtea de Arges Monastery and the Orthodox Cathedral - the place where many Romanian Kings used to be crowned. The highway goes on through the spectacular Olt Valley. At the entrance in the valley there is the Cozia Monastery. Sibiu, a mediaeval city of the XII century, changed by its Saxon inhabitants in Hermannstadt, is part of the fortified German cities "Siebenburgen". You will visit the Evangelic Church (that has a mural fresco dated 1445), as well as the Bruckental Museum dated 1790 that shelters precious art collections.
"Marginimea Sibiului", region that includes several villages - Sibiel, Saliste, Rasinari, Cisnadie - is reputed for the beauty of its scenery and its folklore.

- Day 3 Sibiu - Baia Mare- 339 km.
After breakfast, departure to Baia Mare through Sebes, Alba Iulia, Turda, Cluj-Napoca.
Sebes (Muhlbach), a mediaeval town, fortified by the Germans between the XIV and XVII centuries, preserves in the Evangelic Church (Gothic style - the XIII century) a beautiful Anatolian carpet collection.
Alba Iulia is the symbol of the Romanians' unification
(on December 1, 1918, the unification of Transylvania with Greater Romania). In the past, Alba Iulia was a fortress built by the Vauban model to protect itself against the Turks. You will also visit also the Roman Catholic Cathedra (the XIII century), the Re-unification Cathedral, the Batthynaeum Library (1719), famous for its valuable manuscripts and incunabula.
Cluj - one of the oldest and the most important cities in Romania, called Kolos-var by the Hungarians, and Kalusen-burg by the Germans, was made a "city" by the Emperor Adrian in 124 AC, becoming the most important city in Transylvania, today known as a university city. You will also visit the St. Michael Roman Catholic Cathedral, Transylvania's History Museum, Transylvania's Ethnography Museum, the Art Museum, and the native house of the Hungarian King, Mathias Corvin.

- Day 4 Round trip Maramures - approx. 240 km.
This day you are to visit Maramures, a very picturesque mountain region where old traditions, such as wood sculpture, costumes, habits and dances, have survived. Numerous wooden churches and carved gates are to be seen along the way. 18 km. before reaching Sighetul Marmatiei there is "the Merry Cemetery" of Sapanta, achievement of the popular creator Ioan Stan, who wrote a humorous village chronicle on the gravestones.

- Day 5 Baia Mare - Suceava - 214 km.
This day you are in the beautiful valley of the Iza river where in almost every village there is a wooden church, the oldest coming from the XIV century: Barsana, Rozavlea, Iend, Sacel. To the end of the day you will reach Suceava after having admired the beautiful landscape by the highway and crossed the Rodna Mountains by the Prislop Passage, through Iacobeni and Campulung where there is an interesting Wood's Museum.

- Days 6 Round trip Monasteries - approx. 180 km.
Days destined to visits to the monasteries in Moldavia and Bocovina. Among the more than 60 monasteries that are in this region, one third are artistically and culturally interesting, part of them being classified by UNESCO as a "patrimony of humanity". The most known in the northern area are: Moldavita - and its famous exterior frescoes: "The Judgement Day" and "The Siege of Constantinopolis" - Sucevita, the fortified church with frescoes that narrate the New and Old Testaments and Voronet, famous for the frescoes painted on a dark blue background, worldwide known as the "Voronet blue". There are also to visit the Dragomirna monastery that stands out by the absence of exterior frescoes, and the presence of beautiful geometrical stone decorations; the Arbore monastery - famous for its XVI century frescoes, Putna - impressive by its Baroque architecture, built in 1469 by King Stephan the Great as a royal necropolis. Humor - of smaller sizes, but highly valuable frescoes. Cities of traditional old trades: Marginea (black stone-polished ceramics, a technique coming from the Geto-Dacians), Ciocanesti (carpets), Caccica (ceramics), Carlibaba (weaving).

- Day 7 Suceava - Targu Mures - 257km.
Going on towards Piatra Neamt, will be visited the Agapia monastery, painted by Nicolae Grigorescu, the most famous Romanian painter and the Varatec monastery, that possesses a rich collection of embroidery, cult items, and rare books.
The route to Targu Mures is one of the most picturesque in Romania that passes through the wild quays of the Bicaz river, by the thermal lake Lacu Rosu (The Red Lake), through Sovata Spa Resort to Targu Mures - an old city that has many historical monuments, of a population made up of Romanians, Hungarians, and Germans. The largest part of the historical buildings is in the Piata Trandafirilor (The Square of the Roses): the Roman - Catholic Church, the Orthodox Cathedral, the Ethnography Museum, the Apollo Palace, and the Culture Palace. In the near vicinity there are the Baroque buildings of the "Teleki House" and the Teleki - Bolyai Library, the depositary of a highly valuable documentary fund.

- Day 8 Targu Mures - Brasov - 135 km.
After breakfast departure to Brasov with stop in Sighisoara - a town founded by the Germans in 1146 (Schabburg), which has been admirably preserved. If you take a walk in the old town, you can admire the citadel with its clock and all sorts of craftsmen's workshops. Accommodation in Brasov at the Aro Hotel - Brasov.

- Day 9 Round trip: Brasov and Bran Castel .
On the site of Brasov, the archeological sites certify the existence of Neolithic dwellings and much later those of the Dacians and the Romans. At the beginning of the XIII century, the German colonists were brought here to consolidate the eastern border of the Austrian - Hungarian Empire, the city receiving the name of Kronstadt (the largest city in "Siebenbuerger"). You will also visit the reinforced fortress, the Weavers' Bastion, the Black Church (the XIV century - the biggest Gothic building in Romania), the St. Bartholomew Church. 15 km. away from Brasov there is the Bran Castle (also known as Dracula's Castle) that dates from the XIV century. In 1920 it became royal residence.

- Day 10 Brasov - Bucharest - 180 km.
On the way to Bucharest you will go through the Prahova Valley with its natural beauties, historical remnants, museums and spas. In Sinaia, the so-called "pearl of the Carpathians", one visits the Sinaia Monastery and the Peles Castle (built by King Charles I in the style of the Hohenzollern Castle near Hechingen - Germany).
