VAL D'ISÈRE – is also called ‘The White Magic’ in Espace Killy. Espace Killy is one of the worlds largest ski areas when it comes to slopes in different landscapes and with different difficulty levels. Together with the alpine village Tignes (2100 m) Val d’Isere offers skiing between 1850-3500 m above sea level, 133 slopes (14 black, 35 red, 63 blue, 21 green) and 100 lifts. The location and many snow machines make sure that there is snow between November and the end of May. Val d’Isere is actually three different ski areas connected through ‘le train rouge’ (the red train), a commuting free bus between Daille (1785 m) and Fornet (1930 m), via Val Village (1850 m). Daille is known for its wide, long and beautiful slopes, just watch the morning sun. It is here they arrange the worldcup in the down hill skiing race, known under the name ‘Criterium de la Premiere Neige’, (the first snow race). From Daille you can also take the Funivial, a ultra modern and fast underground mountain train that carries 272 people and runs with a speed of 12m/sek, and it takes only 4 minutes to get to the peak Bellevarde (2827 m above sea level). Val Village is the most developed area of the three. A real ski and sports paradise, with beautiful hotels and apartment buildings, boutiques, sport halls, pubs, restaurants, night clubs, discotheques etc. This is where all the descents from Bellevarde and Solaise meet. Most of them are red and black, also known as olympic competition slopes. The upper part of the two areas are perfect places for the ones that want easy and sunny skiing. Fornet is the least exploited area in Val d’Isere. It is known for the glaciere Pissaillas (2875 m), summer skiing and for it’s fantastic offpist possibilities. Fornet is also perfect for the ones who want easier skiing.
