Liguria has hills and small beaches in several bays, gulfs and capes. Thanks to the location with the Appeninians in the north that protect the area from cold, northern winds, Liguria has a mild climate during almost the entire year. The landscape and the climate favours the cultivation of flowers, olives, fruit and grapes and the region is also famous for its well developed fish industry. Liguria map The vacation resorts are many and most of them are situated by the water. The coast is split into Riviera di Levante, that stretches from Genoa to Lerici and Riviera di Ponente – also split into the Palm Riviera (Genoa-Cervo) and the Flower Riviera (Cervo-french border)- that stretches from Genoa to Ventimiglia. Among the most important beach resorts we can mention Portofino, Rapallo, Pietra Ligure, Loano, Alassio, Borghetto, Diano Marina, Arma di Taggia, Sanremo and Bordighera, all famous for their excellent beaches, different bars and restaurants, sport facilities and exciting excursions to nearby villages or cities like Monte Carlo (Monaco), the capital of the region Genoa- one of the four shipping republics, the beautiful Cinque Terre area or one of the medieval cities of Tuscany like Pisa, Lucca or Florence. You can also go trekking, visit caves (for example the ones in Borgio Verezzi), go biking in the beautiful nature, play golf or try water sports such as sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, etc. There are many folk festivals in Liguria, like the singing party in Sanremo (february), the fish party in Camogli (may), the flower festival (june) and the medieval music festival (july) in Ventimiglia, the sea party in La Spezia (august) and the jazz festival in Alassio.
