Transylvania - The Monasteries of Moldavia - beautiful regions - Day 1 - Arrival in the Bucharest Otopeni Airport, transfer to the Ibis Hotel or a similar one. - Day 2 Bucharest - Sibiu - 275 km. After breakfast, the car and the travel documents are taken over, departure to Sibiu. On the way the Curtea de Arges Monastery and the Orthodox Cathedral - the place where many Romanian Kings used to be crowned. The highway goes on through the spectacular Olt Valley. At the entrance in the valley there is the Cozia Monastery. In Sibiu the accommodation at the Continental Hotel. Sibiu, a mediaeval city of the XII century, changed by its Saxon inhabitants in Hermannstadt, is part of the fortified German cities "Siebenburgen". You will visit the Evangelic Church (that has a mural fresco dated 1445), as well as the Bruckental Museum dated 1790 that shelters precious art collections. "Marginimea Sibiului", region that includes several villages - Sibiel, Saliste, Rasinari, Cisnadie - is reputed for the beauty of its scenery and its folklore. Accomodation at Continental Hotel. - Day 3 Sibiu - Bistrita Nasaud - 240 km. The first stop has to be in Sighisoara, a town founded by the Germans in 1146 (Schabburg), which has been admirably preserved. If you take a walk in the old town, you can admire the citadel with its clock and all sorts of craftsmen's workshops. The route goes on through Targu Mures that has an interesting mediaeval complex of the XV - XVII centuries. Bistrita (Bistritz - in German), a town founded in the XIII century by the Germans, preserves a beautiful Gothic complex, as well as a cathedral the steeple of which is as high as 86 m. Accomodation at Coroana de Aur (The Golden Crown) Hotel. - Days 4 and 5 Bistrita Nasaud - Suceava - 195 km. Tour of Monasteries approx. 150 km. Days destined to visits to the monasteries in Moldavia and Bocovina that can be reached by a highway through the spectacular landscape of the Tihuta and Vatra Dornei Passages. Among the more than 60 monasteries that are in this region, one third are artistically and culturally interesting, part of them being classified by UNESCO as a "patrimony of humanity". The most known in the northern area are: Moldavita - and its famous exterior frescoes: "The Judgement Day" and "The Siege of Constantinopolis" - Sucevita, the fortified church with frescoes that narrate the New and Old Testaments and Voronet, famous for its frescoes painted on a dark blue background, worldwide known as the "Voronet blue". Moving on towards Piatra Neamt, the Agapia monastery, painted by Nicolae Grigorescu, the most famous Romanian painter, will be visited and the Varatec monastery, that possesses a rich collection of embroidery, cult items, and rare books. In Suceava, the accommodation is at the Arcasul Continental (the Continental Archer) Hotel. - Day 6 Suceava - Brasov - 335 km. The route to Brasov is one of the most picturesque in Romania that passes through the wild quays of the Bicaz river, by the thermal lake Lacu Rosu (The Red Lake), through Miercurea Ciuc, and the Tusnad spas. On the site of Brasov, the archeological sites certify the existence of Neolithic dwellings and much later those of the Dacians and the Romans. At the beginning of the XIII century, the German colonists were brought here to consolidate the eastern border of the Austrian - Hungarian Empire, the city receiving the name of Kronstadt (the largest city in "Siebenbuerger"). You will also visit the reinforced fortress, the Weavers' Bastion, the Black Church (the XIV century - the biggest Gothic building in Romania), the St. Bartholomew Church. 15 km. away from Brasov there is the Bran Castle (also known as Dracula's Castle) that dates from the XIV century. In 1920 it became royal residence. Accomodation in Brasov at the Aro Hotel. - Day 7 Brasov - Constanta (Mamaia/Neptun) - 385 km. On your way to Constanta you will go along the Prahova Valley, one of the most picturesque and most visited regions in Romania. In Sinaia "the Pearl of the Carthaians" you can visit the Sinaia Monastery and the Peles Castle that King Charles I had built it in the style of the Hohensollern Castle in Germany. That after Campina and Ploiesti you will cross the Baragan, Romanian's granary to Constanta. Accomodation in Mamaia - Riviera Hotel or similar, or Neptun - Neptun Hotel. - Day 8 Visit of the Black Sea riviera. - Day 9 Constanta - Bucharest - 265 km. Visit of the main sites in Bucharest: The Romanian Art museum locatid in the former Royal Palace, the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, the Village and Popular Art Museum, the Parliament Palace (the world's second building, by size, 900 rooms).
