Tuscany
One of the most popular regions of Italy!

TUSCANY - Welcome to the famous and popular Tuscany- the region situated in the central part of Italy, between the mountain chain the Appeninians and the Mediterranean coast! The landscape is mountainous with the beautiful Tuscan hills that are famous for their wine districts and olive cultivations. The Arno river is the largest of the region and crosses Tuscany.

Tuscany has a mild climate along the coast and a continental one in the inland. This benefits the agriculture and the cultivations of grapes, olives, tobacco, vegetables, chestnuts, etc. The region is also rich with forests and has a very well developed industry with handmade furniture and handcrafts made of marble.

Tuscany is well known for the well preserved attractions that illuminate a very rich and ancient history and culture. The birth place of the italian renaissance – the art city Florence – is the capital of the region that yearly accepts hundreds and thousands of visitors from every corner of the world. Big names like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, etc. have turned Florence into the stronghold of the renaissance and their master pieces are famous world wide. Tuscany is also considered to be the cradle of the italian culture and language. Here we can mention poets and authors like Dante, Macchiavelli and Boccaccio. Other medieval cities that are worth visiting in Tuscany are Siena – with its shell shaped square Piazza del Campo, Lucca – the birth place of the composer Puccini and Pisa – with its leaning tower. These localities have preserved their historical buildings and traditions in an excellent way.

The coast of Tuscany offers its visitors a beautiful and relaxing environment with beautiful sandy beaches and pine forests. Among the more important beach resorts of the region we can mention : Marina di Massa, Marina di Pietrasanta, Viareggio, Tirrenia, Livorno, Cecina Mare, Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia, Marina di Grosseto and Principina Mare. All of these localities offer great accomodation alternatives and shops, possibilities to try out several water sports, golf, tennis, mountain biking, horseback riding and other sports suitable for all ages.

The archipelago of Tuscany, islands like Elba and several nature reserves are some of the destinations in the beautiful nature of Tuscany and some medieval places like Volterra, Arezzo, Cortona, Gimigiano or Rosella situated close to Grosseto. Almost everywhere in Tuscany you can find old castles and fortresses (many of them are hotels today) and this contributes to this vacation paradise for many different tastes. Tuscany is also famous for its spa resorts San Carlo Terme, Montecatini Terme, Saturnia, San Casciano dei Bagni and Chianciano Terme – a spa resort with an ancient heritage.
